The physical does not work without the spirit.

“Blue and Silver” is an immensely enjoyable and refreshing book.  Ms. Perkins’ tale starts with the survival of a young woman (Caishel) left to fend for herself on the streets of Ardville.  Bumping into Sire Ailan of Lan and becoming his “boy” page is her life changing adventure.  But how is she going to convince him that a misty white ghost is trying to kill him?

I’ve used the phrase “a simple tale” often; however, here in “Blue and Silver” you will discovery a beautifully done simple tale of love and caring.  A story of the merging of three different races…Eos, Ancients, and Caishel’s people.  A story of jealousy, pride, greed and murder.

Ms. Perkins’ writing style is flowing with a strong subtle strength.  Her characters are honest and likeable.  Her setting is clear and easily pictured.

I hope Ms. Perkins has plans to revisit Caishel and Ailan or at least this world she has created.

“Following her parents' deaths, Cashiel's ill turn of fortune lands her on the streets where she masquerades as a young boy, so as to avoid being forced into a life of prostitution. When Arilan, one of the land's nobles, rescues her from being prosecuted as a thief, Cashiel's life begins to change. Though he secretly realizes that "Cail" is a girl, not a lad, Arilan takes her into his service as a page, but gradually finds himself falling in love with the plucky, determined young lady, as she does with him. Though this romance garners them enemies at court and defies convention, he marries her. When his grandfather leaves him an estate, they believe themselves blessed, until they see the place. It has fallen into severe disrepair, partly due to the fact that magic ties the land's viability to its master's health and mood. A failing, depressed lord does not make for a good land. There is more to it than that, however. Something sinister threatens not only their inheritance, but Arilan's life as well. Cashiel will risk losing her husband's love to save his life.

Ms. Perkins has created a highly detailed, intricate world. At times, it reads more like a historical romance than a paranormal, but in the
end, the magic is essential to the furtherance of the plot. Though at times the pacing is slow, this allows the reader a full picture of this new vista and the people who live there.” –Amanda Killgore, Independent reviewer
